After getting knocked in the teeth at the Fitbit Miami Marathon in January 2018, I said I wasn’t going back for more. That was the third time running my hometown marathon – a course that I have a love/hate relationship with. I finished my first marathon on the course in 2015 and set a huge PR on it in 2017. But, 2018 took a lot out of me. And, while I learned a lot from it, I thought long and hard about my running, training, and where I was going to go from there.
What I decided is I’m not going to let the Miami Marathon get the last punch. I’m coming back on January 27, 2019 with a vengeance.
I’m not letting any intangibles affect my race this time around. It will be the last time I run the Miami Marathon (in the future I’ll run the Half Marathon) and I’m in attack mode. I’ve already started building my base, and have engineered my training program. I’m focusing a lot more on core and strength work this year, as well as nutrition.
I train on parts of the Fitbit Miami Marathon course every weekend. So, I know it like the back of my hand. It’s some of the most beautiful training and racing runs out there.
I’ve already gone on Athlinks and set my goal. It’s a stretch goal, but I’m ready to hit it.
