Running in the BUFF

img_8766There are few pieces of running gear that I would say are absolutely necessary to have on every time I go out on a run. Chief among them for me is headwear. I need something on my head to keep the sweat from dripping down my face, protect my scalp, and keep my head cool or warm.

I was introduced to BUFF USA a few years ago. I picked up one of their products at an expo and haven’t looked back since. Call it a head sock, head tube, head band, what have you – I call it my tool to keep my head in the game.

Recently, the good people at BUFF relaunched the brands Original Headwear. The new softer product, comes in an amazing array of colors. I was ecstatic to find out they have a reflective black and reflective yellow – which helps runners to be seen at in the dark, which is when most of my runs are.

If you’re unfamiliar with BUFF, there are more than a dozen ways to wear one. Which is why I don’t use my BUFF just for running. It is the first thing I put on when I take the kayak out fishing. The BUFF starts around my neck. I may pull it up to cover my mouth and nose from morning bugs or pull it up as a full hood. Likewise, when I’m mowing the lawn I use it as a mask to keep from breathing in dirt and debris.img_8763

Along with the different ways to wear and activities to use a BUFF, the functionality of the new Original Headwear protects you in more ways than one. BUFF is now manufacturing Original Headwear with a new and improved fabric that is UPF 50. Furthermore, when covered by BUFF Original fabrics your skin is protected from 98% of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays.

Additionally, BUFF Original Headwear is environmentally conscious. The new REPREVE material is made from plastic bottles that are removed from oceans and landfills before being washed, chopped into flakes, melted, then extruded into recycled fibers that are engineered and sewn into BUFF Multifunctional Headwear products. Every BUFF Original is made from the equivalent of two water bottles.
